The Six Bells is a country inn located in the Hudson Valley, inspired by the spirit of the English and American countryside. It's a storybook you can sleep in—a historic three-story building with eleven unique guest rooms, a tavern, riverside restaurant, and shop.
At The Six Bells we invite you to step into another time. We’ve filled the hotel with pieces of the past, many of which may find a place in your own home. The inn is a place where guests can dine, rest, revel and enter a world where every object has a story to tell.
The inn is an expansion of The Six Bells, a country-inspired home goods company which began as a small shop in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. The Six Bells came out of a love of country design and its patchwork of influences. We are antiquers at heart, part of a special group of people whose pulse quickens at the sight of a wrought iron chandelier or a braided wool rug. Welcome to our world.
About Rosendale, NY
Located in Rosendale, New York, on the shores of Rondout Creek, our historic building has operated as a hostelry since 1850, when it first opened as the Central Hotel.
In those days, Rosendale was a boom town: the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and the Washington Monument all contain cement from the now-defunct Widow Jane Mine. Since those days, much has changed. The mine has closed, and the Central Hotel became O’Hara’s Hotel—and then Hotel Bonnie Doon, the Hoffman Hotel, the Garden Inn, the American Hotel, Joe Hill’s Hotel, the Astoria Hotel, and 1850 Hotel.
Other things, of course, have remained the same: the water in the creek still runs cool and clear, and the building welcomes guests seeking sophisticated comfort near the Shawangunk Mountains.

The Six Bells draws its inspiration from Barrow’s Green, a small, bucolic town of our own invention that serves as the fictional origin for both the store and the hotel.
As you explore the inn, doors open like books: inside each room is a chance to delve deeper into the village, its characters and its stories. The inn will host murder mystery weekends, giving guests the chance to experience the romance, fantasy —and scandals—of a place we’ve never been.
